Erin Matthews, Soprano

Praised by the Boston Globe for her “pristine timbre and expressive face,” Ms. Matthews is a highly sought-after soprano, choral musician, and teacher of both voice and Alexander Technique. In the 2025-26 season, Ms. Matthews was featured as a soprano soloist in the Brahms’ Requiem, Schubert’s Mass in G, and Mozart’s Laudate Dominum with Quincy Choral Society, as well as Haydn Lord Nelson Mass with Boston University Choir, the Bembo Te Deum à 5, and as the title role in Elena Ruehr’s Cassandra with Cappella Clausura. In the upcoming season, she will be featured as the soloist in the Fauré Requiem with Parish of the Epiphany and as the soprano soloist in Handel's Messiah with the Rhode Island Civic Chorale & Orchestra.

Previous solo concert work includes Bach St. John Passion, Mozart Missa Brevis in F, Haydn Little Organ Mass, Handel Messiah, Vivaldi Gloria, Finzi In terra pax, Bach Magnificat, Respighi Lauda per la natività del Signore, and Allegri Miserere mei. She has also been a featured recitalist with institutions including the Boston Museum of Fine Arts, Boston College, Boston International Asian Music Festival, and Boston University. This season, she will be a featured recitalist at the BU Composer’s Forum, the United Church of Christ Norwell, and at the the King’s Chapel Recital Series.

This past season, Ms. Matthews was a winner of Boston University’s Spotlight at Carnegie Competition, making her hall debut there, and placed first in the New England Region of the National Association of Teachers of Music Artist Award (NATSAA) Competition. She also took fifth place in the NATSAA National Finals, and won the Rhode Island Civic Chorale & Orchestra Collegiate Vocal Competition.

As an ensemble member, she is a core roster member of both Cappella Clausura and Labyrinth Choir, and has been seen with Skylark, Handel Society of Dartmouth, Schola Cantorum of Boston, Nightingale Vocal Ensemble, Church of the Advent, Trinity Church in the City of Boston, and Marsh Chapel.

On the opera stage, Ms. Matthews most recently appeared with Enigma Chamber Opera in Oblivion by John Aylward, as well as with Boston University Opera Institute as Annu in their production of Thumbprint by Kamala Sankaram. Previously, she has been seen with Guerilla Opera in their world premiere of The Thrilling Adventures of Lovelace and Babbage by Elena Ruehr. Other roles include Despina in Così fan tutte, Johanna in Sweeney Todd, Flora in The Turn of the Screw, Marzelline in Fidelio, Noémie in Massenet’s Cendrillon, Oberto in Alcina, Miss Wordsworth in Albert Herring, Lucinda in Nico Muhly’s Dark Sisters, and Olympia in Les contes d’Hoffmann.

Ms. Matthews has obtained bachelor’s degrees in both Voice Performance and French at the University of North Texas, and her Masters’ in Opera Performance from the Boston Conservatory at Berklee. She now pursues her Doctorate of Musical Arts from Boston University. In addition to her degrees, she holds her 1600 hour Alexander Technique Teaching Certificate, obtained under Debi Adams at the Boston Conservatory at Berklee,and her 200 hour RYT yoga teacher certificate. A passionate student of pedagogy and body work, Ms. Matthews teaches at the Winsor School in Longwood and privately, in addition to performing full-time in the New England area.
